Romance of the Three Kingdoms is not only the beginning masterpiece of traditional Chinese chapter books, but also the most valuable historical novel in China. The full name of the book is Popular Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and it was written by Luo Guan Zhong, who was living in Late Yuan and Early Ming Dynasty, according to Chen Shou s The History of the Three Kingdoms and Pei Songs annotation, Fan Ye s The History of Latter Han, Popular Stories of the Three Kingdoms in Yuan Dynasty and some related poetic dramas and legends. The author mixed those work pieces and recreated them into this book, which panoramically describes the hundred year history from Late Han Dynasty to Jin Unified, narrates the political struggles and military battles inside of the hierarchy and among the three countries Wei, Shu and Wu. It reflects the turbulent social condition of then, exposes the sin of the rulers at that time, such like Dong Zhuo, and build many characters, for example, Liu Bei, Zhu Ge Liang, Cao Cao, Zhou Yu, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, etc. The whole structure is grand, the plot is intricate, and the language is refining, which make the book popular in China.
